What a day.
We started off by getting some breakfast and then heading off to VERITAS. After following this little road for about 10 minutes we came across the first sign for the Whipple Observatory, and shortly after we were greeted by T3, one of the telescopes in the array.
It was hot, and sunny, and me and another guy named Skippy (obviously his nickname) being the youngest people around were given the task of excavating some wires, which essentially meant digging out some gravel from a trench between T1 and its trailer. It was real hot, and dirty.
Once that was done, I tackled the inside of the trailer (see attached before and after pictures).
I also got to do some neat stuff, like check out the telescopes up close (detectors and mirrors and so on) and drive a jeep once owned by NASA.
Something I've notices is that wildlife is abundant: Scorpions, lizards, freaky sized wasps, skunks, bears, coyotes, black widows, and so on, have all been either mentioned to me, or I have observed in the 24 hours I've been here.
We also drove all the way up to the top of Mt. Hopkins to see the Whipple 10m telescope and the Multiple Mirror Telescope. The road was really long, twisty and scary, but it was really pretty once we reached the top.
